Turn your 20-hour monthly firm report into a dashboard that updates itself

Result

as reported

A firm performance report that took 20 hours a month now updates every 24 hours on its own.

Ben Curtis, CPA, co-founder of Good Measure (a 12-person cloud accounting firm in Knoxville), described what he needed to Claude in plain English. Claude wrote a Google Apps Script that pulls data from Gusto and Karbon and refreshes the report daily, so the saved hours go to client work.

Try it now

  1. Pick your most painful, most frequent report.
  2. Describe to Claude what data you have, where it lives, and what the finished report should show, and ask for a Google Apps Script.
  3. Expect the first version to break. Fix it in rounds, test on your own firm’s data first, and keep a person reviewing the output.
Copy-paste prompt
I’m not a coder. I run [firm]. Every month I build a report showing [realization, client profitability, team performance] from [Gusto] and [Karbon] exports. Write a Google Apps Script for a Google Sheet that pulls this data through their APIs, combines it by [client / team member], and refreshes every 24 hours. Explain step by step where to paste it and how to get each API key. Don’t put any client data in your answer.

What to watch out for

From a vendor’s (Gusto) partner article, adapted from a Gusto and Karbon webinar, and older than most of our plays (May 2026). The 20 hours is Ben’s figure. “The dashboard sucked at first,” so plan for a few rounds. Start with your own firm’s data before client data. Build it with Page: a private client page that shows the same numbers.
