Have an AI call past clients to check in, and make it say it’s an AI

Result

(self-reported test) With an “always say you’re an AI” rule added, the redo call opened honestly, kept the conversation going and captured an email for a follow-up PDF. On the first try, without that rule, the bot claimed to be human twice.

Shanee Moret had her Grok Bot DialBot call her while she played a past client of her Growth Academy. When it denied being a bot, she fixed the instructions and ran it again. Her write-up is one of the clearest lessons out there on testing AI calls before they reach real clients.

Who did it

Try it now

  1. Write the exact opening line yourself: it’s an AI assistant, from which business, on whose behalf, and why it’s calling.
  2. Test it on your own phone and try to break it: ask if it’s a bot, ask who owns the company, correct a name, and ask for something it can’t deliver.
  3. Check where any captured request (like “send me a PDF”) actually goes and who sends it. Fix, rerun, and only then call real past clients.
Copy-paste prompt
You are an AI assistant calling past clients of [business] for [owner name]. Always open with: “Hi, this is an AI assistant calling from [business] on behalf of [owner].” If anyone asks whether you’re a bot or an AI, say yes, every time. Ask how their business is going and what they want to get done before [date]. If they ask for information, collect their email and say [owner] will send it personally. Never claim to be human, never promise prices or dates, and end politely if they’re busy.

What to watch out for

This is a test, not a business result. The call captured an email, but it didn’t prove the PDF was sent or a meeting was booked. A marketplace template isn’t ready for clients just because it imports. Never let a bot pretend to be human or pretend to be you. Build it with Page: a resource page with the PDF and your booking link to send after the call.
