Never let the bot name a price

What happened

as reported

A dealership chatbot presented the wrong buy-back offer, more than $7,000 too high, and the story made the news.

The dealer’s chatbot was only meant to relay offers written by staff. It presented what the customer still owed (about $27,163) as the offer. Prices must come from a human or a live source.

Try it now

The safe way to do this instead:

  1. Find every place a bot talks to customers: website chat, DMs, auto-replies.
  2. Add the guardrail block below to its instructions.
  3. Test it: ask the bot for a discount and make sure it hands off to a human.
Copy-paste prompt
You must never state, estimate, or agree to any price, discount, refund, deadline, or policy that is not quoted word-for-word from [pricing sheet / policy doc]. If asked about one that isn’t there, say: “Let me get [name] to confirm that for you,” and collect the customer’s contact details. Do not negotiate.

What to watch out for

Prices, discounts, policies and deadlines must come from a human or a live source, never from the model. Build it with Page: A public pricing and policy page that your chatbot quotes from directly.
