self-reportedIn minutes his Grok Bot logged into his gallery platform and pulled 10,000+ contacts from 20 years of photography, 9,000+ of them already opted in, segmented into weddings, corporate and guests.
Bud Johnson is a photographer of 20 years in Savannah who now also hosts a podcast on AI for small business. Two decades of client and guest emails sat unused inside his gallery platform. From his phone at the gym, he told Grok Bot to log in and get them. Minutes later he had more than 10,000 contacts, 9,000+ already opted in, sorted by weddings, corporate and guests, saved into a notes vault he can browse himself.
Who did it
Try it now
- List every platform where past clients live: gallery, booking, invoicing, old email.
- Have the bot export contacts from each and keep the opt-in status.
- Have it sort them into groups that matter, like weddings, corporate and guests.
- Remove anyone who never opted in from marketing lists.
- Send each group one useful note, like a seasonal booking reminder.
Log into my [gallery/booking platform] and export every client and guest contact with email, name, date of last job and opt-in status. Combine them into one sheet, remove duplicates and sort them into groups: [weddings, corporate, guests]. Keep anyone who didn’t opt in in a separate tab marked do-not-market. Then give me counts per group and draft one short, helpful email for each group for me to review.
Make it run every week
A play works once. Turn it into a routine in three small steps:
- Run it once and check the result yourself.
- Give your AI a schedule. Tell it when to run this play (every week, or every month) and to message you with what it found before you act.
- Keep a log. One line per run: what was checked, anything flagged, what you did.
What to watch out for
Self-reported from his own post. Only email people who opted in, and honor unsubscribes. Guests who downloaded photos aren’t automatically your marketing list. Build it with Page: a booking page to send past clients to.
