Build a Claude skill that turns a raw testimonial into a vertical video ad

In about 90 minutes of prompting, he built a skill that took a four-minute testimonial and cut it into a 9 by 16 video ad, and he now has a system on his desktop that does the same from any raw footage.

Michael Stelzner founded Social Media Examiner and the Social Media Marketing World conference. His team had recorded some strong video ads for another event, so he had Claude study them and say what they had in common: a cold open on the face, a five-beat arc and very short captions. He asked for a new skill whose only job is vertical video ads. He used ChatGPT for a background mock that Claude struggled with and Gemini for the music, and trained the skill to track the speaker as he moved.

Try it now

  1. Collect 3 to 5 video ads that already worked for you and give them to Claude.
  2. Ask it what they have in common (the open, the beats, the caption style, the end card) and save that as a skill.
  3. Give it one raw testimonial and have it find the key moments and cut a 9 by 16 draft.
  4. Fix what it gets wrong (framing, music, end card) and add each fix to the skill.
  5. Run every new testimonial through the skill and review before you spend on ads.

Here are [3-5] video ads that worked for us: [files or links]. List what they have in common: how they open, the beats of the story, caption length and style, and the end card. Turn that into a reusable skill for 9 by 16 vertical ads. Then take this raw testimonial [file], pick the strongest 30 to 45 seconds that follow those beats, keep the speaker centered, add short captions, and give me a draft plus a list of the cuts you made.

Make it run every week

A play works once. Turn it into a routine in three small steps:

  1. Run it once and check the result yourself.
  2. Give your AI a schedule. Tell it when to run this play (every week, or every month) and to message you with what it found before you act.
  3. Keep a log. One line per run: what was checked, anything flagged, what you did.

What to watch out for

Self-reported from his own post. Get the customer’s OK before you turn their testimonial into a paid ad, and watch every cut so nothing gets taken out of context. Build it with Page: a landing page the ad points to, with the full testimonial on it.
